Excellent Shape
Why do you think Superman is shown to be in excellent shape?
My view on this three reasons which includes because his name is Superman. It wouldn't make sense to have that name, and not have a excellent magnificent body that drive women crazy. He's fighting bad guys day after day which is a work out. In comic books the male super heroes are often drawn to be body builder types huge muscles with ripped abs, and Supes is no exception.
Because he wouldn't be as awe-inspiring as a 500 lb. tub of lard couch potato. How would he fit in that phone booth to change? How can he fly? How can he have super speed? It'd be a visual oxymoron, if that makes sense.
